Is hell real?

When I speak of "the doctrine of hell", I mean the teaching that those who do not repent of their sins and trust in Christ will suffer eternally under God's displeasure. We will say more about the details in the next section, but for now I want us to be clear that hell is not the problem — the absence of hell would be the problem. Hell confirms that God is a God of justice and righteousness, who deals rightly with humanity.

We can have peace. All of us who know God can lift our heads and walk through this wretched world in peace. Whatever happens, however the world treats us, God will bring perfect repayment and vengeance in His own way and His own time. God "has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness" (Acts 17:31).
